Art: The Littlest Knight

The other day I was just mucking around with my Cintiq, when I made this so called 'picture':

'The Littlest Knight'
Version 1
I hadn't done a fully finished and polished picture for a long time, so I thought - "I can do better than this."

So I drew this vector piece:

'The Littlest Knight'
Version 2
"Better," I thought "but it doesn't feel finished."

So I added a few random textures, glows and gradients:

'The Littlest Knight'
Version 3
I was, by this point, quite happy with it - but I didn't like the background or the clouds.

So I redrew them:

'The Littlest Knight'
Version 4
I was now completely happy with the content, but I couldn't remember the exact textures and gradients I had added before and couldn't replicate the effect. Hence, I have two final pieces.

Version 4, I think is my favourite, though it does miss a certain sombre 'story-book-edness' of Version 3. However, Version 3 doesn't compare to the detail, lightness, and the narrative of Version 4.

I don't know, what do you guys think?

9 bodies of literary units forming semantic concepts:

  1. this is so kawaii!

i like the darkness of the first one and i like the light and shinyness of Version 4. the back ground is particulary awesome in V4.

  6. Definitely 4 for me! Stylish style, clouds and angles are great. It has a nice warmness to it. yummy :P

Nice light effect on the sword. A great concept indeed.
The chinese used this technique. Though with their shields; reflecting sunlight into the eyes of their enemies. Well they did in Red Cliff at least :P

    More cintiqing!
