Vaguely Caricature-ish Sketches: The Second

I think '6' is my favourite. That guy has such a great face. I'm also quite happy with '4', but I mean... how do you screw up a face like that? It's basically a caricature already. EDIT: Looking back on it, I think may have found a way to screw it up...

This time the sketches were from the faces off obscure Russian albums or something - maybe a few from the newspaper. I don't know. I borrowed some books on Caricature, as it is something that both intrigues and eludes me - it's such a frustratingly subconscious thing.

I think I can push the faces further.

7 bodies of literary units forming semantic concepts:

  1. nice, these are enjoyable, i really dig 4 aswell, that guy had an interesting face and i like number 2, he looks like will ferrel's character in blades of glory (but if he was fat). 3 and 6 look like politicians.

i was thinkig about charictures yesterday and even though they are highly stylised, they capture the essence of someones face.
i think it might be in the head shape and eyes, and exxageration of certain facial "flaws".

what do u think it is?

  2. I LOVE number 2 and number 7.

Number 2 just has so much character and immediately draws the eye. And 7? That just commands character.

As usual I cannot get enough of your work.

  4. Ha ha! The downer of being an artist: We are never quite satisfied with out own work.

  5. You guys like number 2? ..okay. Well, I guess that's why it's good to have other people look at one's work.

  6. Also, the thing about Willem Dafoe is he's almost soo easy, he becomes impossible. There was a whole chapter about this in my Caricature Book.

Everybody thinks it's the ordinary, and forgettable faces that are the hardest to caricature, but there is a certain type of face that is so detailed, and so specific and so recognisable that it becomes almost impossible again. I'm bad at explaining it though...

  7. No, I get it. Makes sense, I suppose. Never really thought about it.
